How to Slow the Voice Speed on an iPod Touch

By Julius Vandersteen

When you're listening to someone talking on an audiobook or a podcast on your iPod Touch, a portable media player made by Apple, the person may be speaking too quickly for you to easily understand the words. Maybe you're listening to audio recorded in a language that you are still learning, and you'd like to slow it down. Or the person talking on a podcast learned to speak like a motormouth at auctioneer school, and you want her voice reduced to half speed. You can easily slow the voice speed of audiobooks and audio podcasts on your iPod Touch.

Step 1

Press the "Home" button on your iPod Touch, located below the touch-sensitive screen.

Step 2

Tap the "Music" app icon on the home screen to launch the iPod Touch's native audio player.

Step 3

Tap "Audiobooks" or "Podcasts" at the bottom of the screen. If you don't see "Audiobooks" or "Podcasts," tap "More" to reveal them.

Step 4

Tap the name of an audiobook or a podcast to start playing it.

Step 5

Tap the small box labeled "1X" (indicating that audio is playing back at normal speed) in the upper right section of the screen twice to cycle it to "2X" (twice as fast) and then to "1/2X" to set playback to half speed. Tap the box again to return to "1X" speed.
