How to Start a Dell Laptop in Safe Mode

Dell laptops are portable, which allows you to use them at any location. These portable PCs run on the Microsoft Windows operating system, which has a built-in Safe Mode version to allow you to clean away viruses and other problems. No matter what version of Windows you have, the command to access Safe Mode is the same.

Step 1

Remove all storage devices, CDs and DVDs and turn the computer off.

Step 2

Turn the computer on.

Step 3

Once the system begins to power up, hold the "F8" key.

Step 4

Select "Safe Mode" from the "Advanced Boot Options" menu that appears.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use antivirus programs in Safe Mode to destroy viruses.
  • Some programs will not work in Safe Mode.
