How to Stop Animation in PowerPoint

By Paul Kemp

Microsoft PowerPoint is among the most widely used presentation software programs on the planet. It has been used in boardrooms and classrooms for years now, and many people look for ways to distinguish their presentations from the rest of the herd. One of the ways PowerPoint allows you to do this is with its custom slide animations. But while these animations can be fun to play with, they are not necessarily appropriate for every audience. There is a method to turn off all animations quickly and temporarily.

Step 1

Open PowerPoint and your animated project by double-clicking on the project in the folder it is located in on your computer.

Step 2

Select “Slide Show > Set Up Show” from the application menu at the top of the screen.

Step 3

Check the “Show without animation” box in the “Show options” portion of the dialog box. Click “OK” to commit your change. Your PowerPoint slide show will now be displayed without any of the animations you have set up until you return to this menu and uncheck the “Show without animation” box.

Step 4

Select “File > Save” from the application menu if you will be closing the file or the program before presenting your slide show.
