How to Stop GPS Mapping on an iPhone

By Matt McGew

The iPhone features a Global Positioning System (GPS) chip that allows you to use GPS mapping applications on the iPhone. Maps, the built-in mapping application on the iPhone, provides mapping services including detailed driving directions, street directions, street maps, satellite photos and hybrid views of many locations around the world. At times, however, you may want to disable GPS mapping on your iPhone. You can disable the GPS features on your iPhone through the settings menu.

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPhone.

Step 2

Select the "General" option.

Step 3

Tap the "Location Services" setting.

Step 4

Move the "Location Services" switch to the "OFF" position. All GPS based features on your iPhone are now disabled.

Tips & Warnings

  • To reactivate GPS features on your iPhone, repeat this process and move the switch to the "ON" position for Step 4.
