How to Stop Spam With Yahoo Mail

By Adrian Grahams

Spam or junk mail can blight any email inbox to such an extent that it's difficult to find the legitimate emails that you need to access. Yahoo! Mail users can cut down on spam by using the service's SpamGuard feature that filters junk email out of your inbox and deposits it in a dedicated spam folder. You can stop spam with Yahoo! Mail by customizing the options in SpamGuard.

Step 1

Open your computer's Web browser and log in to your Yahoo! Mail account.

Step 2

Click "Options" in the top right-hand corner of the Yahoo! Mail screen.

Step 3

Select "More Options" and wait for the options screen to load. Click "Spam" in the left-hand menu.

Step 4

Click the check-box beside "Automatically Send Suspected Spam to My Spam Folder" to select this option.

Step 5

Select additional junk email management measures from the list of options by clicking the relevant check-box. You can reset the junk mail filter, block images in emails and choose how often Yahoo! Mail deletes the contents of the spam folder.

Step 6

Click the "Save Changes" to complete the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select the "Mark As Spam" option for junk emails that continue to arrive in your inbox. Yahoo! Mail will automatically add the spam email address to the junk email filter and send them to the spam folder in future.
  • Check the spam folder regularly to ensure that legitimate emails have not been erroneously marked as spam.
