How to Sync an iPhone With RR Mail
RoadRunner (RR) is the brand name of Time Warner Cable's Internet offerings. Many Time Warner customers end up with a RoadRunner email account, because it is free with their Internet service. RoadRunner email is not pre-configured on an iPhone like some of the more common providers such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail. If you wish to sync your iPhone with your RR email, you will first need to gather some information about your account. You can then set the account up on your iPhone as a custom "Other" type of account.
Things You'll Need
- Your RoadRunner POP and SMTP server names
Open your iPhone's Settings app, scroll down to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and tap to enter you mail configuration screen.
Select "Add Account" from the Accounts menu, and then select the "Other" option at the bottom of the list. Tap "Add Mail Account" from the following screen.
Fill out the New Account form. Type in your name, the full RoadRrunner email address, your password and a short description such as "RR" or "RoadRunner," which allows you to identify the account on your iPhone.
Tap the "Next" button in the upper-right corner. You may have to wait patiently for the iPhone to look up the account information, depending upon the version of your iPhone operating system and your Internet connection speed.
Select the "POP" tab, which stands for Post Office Protocol, the method that RoadRunner uses for accessing customer email in its system.
Verify or enter the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server data in the entry fields. These each include a Host and User Name plus a Password field. Your iPhone may pre-fill these, based on your email address. If not, you will need to confirm this information with the configuration that RoadRunner has provided you. If you need to contact RoadRunner support, Apple has a "Cheat Sheet" (see Resources) you can use to prompt for the proper set of data.
Tap the "Save" button in the upper-right corner of your iPhone and wait as your account is verified. You can safely ignore the messages about SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, because RoadRunner does not support this feature.
Tips & Warnings
- RoadRunner does not allow sending email from outside its network, so when you are connected at home with Wi-Fi, you will be able to send emails with this account. When you are connected from elsewhere, or via AT&T's 3G network, you will not be able to send email from this account. This is because of RoadRunner security.
