How to Sync Music From an iMac to an iPhone

The iMac and iPhone work together seamlessly when you want to transfer information from one device to the other. Since iTunes is Apple's default media player, you can use the program on your iMac to sync music from the computer to your iPhone. ITunes provides you with two options for syncing music to the iPhone. You can choose to sync your entire music library at once, or you can select only specific items to transfer.

Step

Connect the iPhone to the iMac with the iPhone USB dock cable. ITunes recognizes the connection and launches automatically.

Step

Select the iPhone from the "Devices" heading of iTunes' left sidebar. The iPhone's "Summary" pane loads to the main section of the iTunes window.

Step

Click the "Music" tab at the top of the screen to load the "Music" sync pane.

Step

Check the box next to "Sync Music" from the top of the "Music" pane, then choose the "Entire Music Library" option if you want to sync your whole iTunes library to the iPhone. Alternatively, choose the "Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums, and Genres" option if you want to specify what items to sync to the iPhone.

Step

Navigate to the "Playlists," "Artists," "Albums" and "Genres" sections of the "Music" pane if you chose to sync "Selected Playlists, Artist, Albums, and Genres" in the last step. Check the box next to each item you want to sync to the iPhone.

Step

Click "Sync" at the bottom of the iTunes window to sync music to the iPhone.
