How to Synchronize Google Calender & iPhone

By Mario Calhoun

Although the iPhone comes with its own calendar application, it also allows you to synchronize calendars from third-party sources including Gmail. As a part of the iPhone's Mail settings, the iPhone provides account synchronization for your Gmail account, and includes mail, calendars and notes synchronization, according to the official Apple iPhone user guide. Once your Gmail account is set up on your iPhone, you can adjust the synchronization settings to retrieve data from the Gmail server and merge it with your iPhone's iCal application.

Things You'll Need

  • Google Gmail account

Step 1

Press the home button on your iPhone to return to the main screen of the device, and press the "Settings" icon on your screen to access the iPhone's settings.

Step 2

Press the Mail, Contacts, Calendars tab, and press "Add Account" located underneath the Account section of the screen. Press "Gmail" on the screen to add your Gmail account.

Step 3

Tap the Name field and type the name used for your Gmail account into the field. Type your full Gmail email address and enter the Gmail account's password into the Password field. Tap the up arrow in the lower-left corner of the on-screen keyboard to turn the Caps lock on, and tap the ".?123" button to access the numbers and symbols section of the on-screen keyboard.

Step 4

Press the "Next" icon at the top of the screen to verify your Gmail account, and press the "On" switch on the Mail tab to disable mail synchronization. Press the switch on the Calendars tab and select "Keep on My iPhone" to keep your existing calendar events on your iPhone, or press "Delete" to remove all of your current iCal events and add the Google Calendar events. If "Keep on My iPhone" is selected, tap "Keep On My iPhone" again to confirm the action.
