How to Take Pictures on Skype

By Kay Ireland

Skype allows you to video chat with friends and family members around the world. Using a webcam, you can easily connect to other Skype users for a fast, free and effective way to communicate. Not only does Skype allow you to video chat, but you can also make phone calls and take pictures using Skype. Pictures taken with Skype can be used as your profile pictures once they are saved into your Skype picture library.

Step 1

Open Skype and type in your login information. Once you've successfully logged in, choose "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the Skype window.

Step 2

Navigate down to "Options" and then select "Video Settings" from the left-hand side menu. Your webcam should automatically turn on and you'll see your real time playback. If your webcam does not activate, check your webcam settings and ensure that your webcam is properly installed.

Step 3

Click "Take a Video Snapshot," found just below your video. This will open a new video. When you're ready, click "Take a Snapshot" and wait three seconds for the picture to take.

Step 4

Drag the bounding box that appears around your photo to center and crop the image as desired. You can also adjust the size of the box by using the slider bar in the lower left-hand corner. Once you're satisfied with the position and size of your photo, click "Save Snapshot."

Step 5

Select your chosen photo from the picture library. This will appear as your public Skype profile picture.
