With the advent of electronic mail, person-to-person communication was revolutionized and made instant. Just as with traditional mail, however, the nagging question of whether or not your message has been opened and read by the recipient exists. Luckily, email programs such as Outlook Express allow you to send a read receipt with you email that will notify you when your email has been opened.
Double-click the "Outlook Express" icon to launch the program. Click the "Tools" tab in the Outlook Express program window, and select "Options."
Click the "Receipts" tab, and place a check mark next to the "Request a read receipt for all sent messages" option. Click the "OK" button to save the changes.
Compose the email message, and send it as you normally would. As long as the recipient is using an email program that supports read receipts and as long as the recipient has not disabled the read receipt option, you will receive a read receipt once the email has been opened.
