How to Transfer a Contact List to a New Cell Phone With a Bluetooth

By Jennifer Simon

Many individuals use their cell phone to store large amounts of information. When a new cell phone is purchased, manually transferring all of the contact information from the old phone to the new one can be a daunting task. However, there are special devices and programs that can be used between cell phones or with a computer in order to quickly transfer contact information. A Bluetooth can be connected to a computer and used to transfer information from one to the other as long as both phones are Bluetooth enabled. Electronically transferring information is quick and ensures accuracy.

Things You'll Need

  • PC with a Bluetooth card or a Bluetooth dongle

Step 1

Check to make sure that both cell phones are enabled with Bluetooth. Access the computer and determine if it contains an internal Bluetooth card or chip. If it has an internal card, then no additional steps are required other than transferring the cell phone contact information.

Step 2

Check to make sure that both cell phones are enabled with Bluetooth. Access the computer and determine if it contains an internal Bluetooth card or chip. If it has an internal card, then no additional steps are required other than transferring the cell phone contact information.

Step 3

Turn on both cell phones and make sure that they are enabled to use the Bluetooth. The Mobile Apptitude website explains to access the Menu, go to "Settings" and click on "Bluetooth." Once the Bluetooth is activated, the contact information transfer process is relatively quick.

Step 4

Make sure that the cell phones are located near each other. On the old cell phone go to the Menu, select "Add New" and enable the phone to search for another Bluetooth device. The old phone should locate the new phone in order to sync the two devices.

Step 5

Go to the Menu on the old phone and add the new phone as a trusted device. Highlight the new cell phone, select "Options," click on "Send Items" and select "Contacts." The two cell phone's internal Bluetooth systems will then connect and transfer all of the contact information.

Step 6

Transfer the contact information to the computer in the same manner in order to safely store all of the contact information. The old cell phone can transfer the information to the Bluetooth-enabled computer. All of the contact information can be saved on the computer in case the cell phone becomes damaged or lost at some point.
