How to Transfer an App From My PC to an iPad

By Spanner Spencer

You can download games and software applications directly to the iPad using the online App Store app, as long as the iPad is receiving a wireless Internet connection. Some of these apps can be as large as 700MB, however, and they download faster onto a computer. Using the iTunes multimedia management software from Apple, you can buy apps on the same account as the iPad and transfer them to the device via USB cable once they've downloaded.

Step 1

Launch the Settings application on the iPad and select "Store." Enter the username and password of the iTunes account used when downloading the app onto the PC, and then tap the "Sign In" button. The iPad and the PC must share the same account for you to transfer apps between them.

Step 2

Connect the iPad to the computer using its USB cable. ITunes launches automatically when the computer detects that an iPad has been connected.

Step 3

Select the iPad from the "Devices" list in iTunes, and open the "Apps" tab in the main window. A list of available applications currently stored on the PC is displayed in the "iPhone, iPod touch and iPad Apps" section.

Step 4

Check the "Sync Apps" box at the top of the open window, and scroll through the list of applications checking the boxes for any games and apps you want to transfer to the iPad.

Step 5

Click the "Sync" button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window to transfer the selected apps to the iPad. Once synchronization has completed, disconnect the iPad and begin using the applications.

Tips & Warnings

  • The iTunes synchronization is a two-way process. Any apps downloaded directly to the iPad are transferred to the PC.
  • You can rearrange the app icons in iTunes; the new settings are transferred to the iPad's home screens during synchronization.
