How to Transfer iPhone Videos Safely With USB

By Lynn Burbeck

If you have an iPhone, you can use the phone's camera function to take short video clips. There is no limit to the length of these videos, although users find that longer videos take up a significant amount of space on the phone's hard drive and can slow performance. Because of the large size of these video files, it is a good idea to transfer them to your computer for safe keeping so that you can delete the files from your phone.

Step 1

Plug your iPhone into your computer using a USB cord. In order for your computer to recognize the device, it must be turned on.

Step 2

Select the option to "open device and view files" in the AutoPlay window that appears on your computer screen. This shows you all the photos and videos currently saved on your iPhone. Alternatively, you can choose to download all of your iPhone's photos and videos to your computer's hard drive.

Step 3

Save the videos and photos to your computer by dragging and dropping the selected files into a new folder, or by right-clicking on the video file and selecting "Copy."

Step 4

Wait as the videos are transferred successfully to your computer. You will receive notification once the transfer is complete.

Step 5

Test the video playback to ensure there was no error during the transfer process. Once you are confident that the transfer was successful, you can delete the video files from your mobile device.
