How to Transfer Pictures to New Phones
Cameras on mobile phones have come a long way from the days of blurry pictures that got lost when you changed phones. Now mobile phones can take quality pictures and save you the trouble of carrying a separate camera. Transferring pictures is easier, too, and there are several ways to move them into permanent storage. Choose the right method for you and keep your pictures when you change phones.
Things You'll Need
- Memory card
- USB cable
Move Pictures With a Memory Card
Install the memory card on the phone by inserting it in the correct slot. Check your user manual for phone-specific instructions.
Move pictures from the phone's internal memory to the memory card. On standard mobile phones, you do this by navigating to your pictures on the phone, selecting "Options" then selecting "Move." Choose "Memory Card" when you are given the option.
Remove the memory card from the original cellphone.
Insert the memory card in the new mobile phone.
Open the "Pictures" folder on the new cellphone to ensure they are compatible with the new device.
Move Pictures Via USB Cable
Turn on USB mass storage mode on the mobile phone that has your pictures.
Connect your mobile phone to your computer via USB cable.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install any drivers to your computer, or navigate to your cellphone manufacturer's website to install mobile phone drivers or syncing software. You may need to restart your computer to complete any software installations.
Navigate to your computer's list of drives. Your mobile phone should appear on this list, and may be labeled as a removable drive or with the phone's make or model.
Copy and paste the pictures from your mobile phone's memory to your computer. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Unplug the first mobile phone, then plug in the second one. Install the second phone's device drivers, if necessary.
Open the second phone's menu system from the list of drives on the computer. Locate the appropriate folder for pictures. Copy the pictures saved to the computer and paste them in the appropriate folder in the mobile phone.
Tips & Warnings
- Create a backup folder on your computer before moving the pictures to the new mobile phone to ensure there are no formatting issues.
- If you do not have a memory card or USB cable, pictures can be sent to another phone number or email address via picture message.
- Picture formats vary from one mobile phone to another. Make a backup of your pictures to avoid losing them.
