How to Troubleshoot a Hitachi Projection Color TV

By William Pullman

Hitachi projection color televisions work well under most conditions, but on occasion may experience problems that have an effect on the picture and sound quality of the television broadcast. Though some of the problems that occur with Hitachi projection televisions are major and need the assistance of a service technician, other problems are common and fixable by the television owner. Save time and money by troubleshooting your Hitachi projection television.

Picture and Sound

Step 1

Check that the power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet and that the television has been turned on.

Step 2

Press the "Channel Up" or "Channel Down" buttons to switch to another channel. If other channels do not have the same problems, the problem is likely with the television signal. Contact your cable or satellite provider for information on the station.

Step 3

Ensure that the antenna, cable or satellite coaxial cable is securely connected to the "Antenna" jack on the back of the television. In addition, check that the other end of the coaxial cable is secure to the wall jack. When checking coaxial cable, look for any cracks in the cable. You may need to replace the coaxial cable if it has degraded.

Step 4

Move any electrical devices away from the television. Some electrical devices may interfere with the television signal.

Step 5

Press the "Video" button on the remote control to access the picture settings. Use the up and down arrows to switch between the different settings, such as "Contrast," "Brightness" and "Color", and the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the settings. When scrolling through the different settings, look for a value that is close to "0%" or "100%." This setting may need adjustment to fix problems with the picture.

Step 6

Push the "Mute" button or the "Volume Up" button to restore the volume if there is no sound.

Power

Step 1

Press the "On/Off" button on the television if the television shuts off during operation. The loss of power may be due to a power surge, which enables the Hitachi projection television's power surge protection.

Step 2

Wait approximately 30 seconds if the power did not turn on and press the "On/Off" button a second time.

Step 3

Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet if the television did not turn on and wait for 30 seconds. When the power cord is unplugged, the television will discharge any built up electrical charge.

Step 4

Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet and press the "On/Off" button to turn on the television.
