How to Turn Off Google Auto Translation

By David Koenig

Google is able to translate to and from many languages. One of the features available in the Google Web browser Chrome, as well as on the Google Toolbar in other browsers, is automatic translation of websites into your preferred language. If you'd rather view all pages in the original languages, you can disable the Google auto-translation feature in a few simple steps, either in Chrome or on the Google Toolbar.

Google Chrome

Step 1

Click Settings (wrench icon).

Step 2

Click Options, then select Under the Hood.

Step 3

Click the box next to "Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language that I read." This removes the tick and switches off auto translation. You can revisit this page to tick the box and enable translation again.

Google Toolbar

Step 1

Click Settings (wrench icon).

Step 2

Click Tools.

Step 3

Click the box next to Translate. This removes the tick and disables auto translation. You can tick the box to enable translation again at any time.
