How to Turn Your iPad Into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

The iOS 4.3 software update for the iPad tablet computer features the ability to create a Wi-Fi hotspot using the 3G cellular data connection on your iPad device. Once you successfully create a new Wi-Fi hotspot on your iPad device, you can connect to the hotspot using any compatible Wi-Fi device. The ability to create Wi-Fi networks is a free feature included in the iOS 4.3 software update.

Things You'll Need

  • Cellular data connection
  • 3G iPad model
  • iPad iOS 4.3 or later

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPad device.

Step 2

Press the "Personal Hotspot" button.

Step 3

Move the "Personal Hotspot" switch to the "ON" position.

Step 4

Tap the Wi-Fi password text book to enter a password for your the Wi-Fi network.

Step 5

Press the home button located at the bottom of your iPad's screen to save the settings. You have now turned your iPad into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Tips & Warnings

  • From your computer or other compatible Wi-Fi device's network menu, select the "iPad Network" and enter the password to connect to your iPad's Wi-Fi hotspot.
