How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7

By Techwalla Contributor

Internet Explorer 8 came with Windows 7. It has since been surpassed by a newer version. If you want to remove Internet Explorer 8 from your computer for that reason or because you use a different Internet browser, doing so can free up space on your hard disk.

Step 1

Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."

Step 2

Click "Programs." Then, under Programs and Features, click "Turn Windows Features on or off." Windows 7 will take a few seconds to populate a list of features on your computer.

Step 3

Click to remove the check mark next to "Internet Explorer 8." Click "OK."

Step 4

Restart your computer. Once the restart is complete, you've successfully uninstalled Internet Explorer 8 from Windows 7.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you change your mind and decide you want IE8 back on your computer, simply go back to Windows Features and re-enable Internet Explorer 8 by selecting the check box and clicking "OK." This will also require a restart.
