How to Unjam a Printer
Unjamming a printer can be a scary process to many. If you have a printer that gets paper jams a lot, this article will help you make unjamming your printer less stressful. Don't pull your hair out or hit your printer with a baseball bat. The paper jam will be over before you know it.
Things You'll Need
- New printer paper
Cancel the print job. Cancelling your print job on your computer should be your first step. This will help your printer stop printing. Your automatic response is too grab the jammed paper, do not grab the paper.
Turn your printer off. Turning your printer off will allow your printer to reset itself. This will also give you time to perform the next step.
Grab the end of the papers. There is usually crumpled pieces of paper still exposed from the printer. Gently grab and pull out the crumpled paper. Some printers may need to be opened and the paper inside may need removed.
Re-load your printer with new print paper. The original paper will be destroyed. You can now try printing your document again.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure all of the paper is removed from the printer.
- Be careful, some printers may burn you when you put your hand in them. Make sure the power is turned off.
- Do not pull on the jammed paper too hard. You will destroy the print rollers that are inside your computer printer.
