The file properties on your computer's hard drive can become locked, preventing you from making changes to the files and folders. They will remain so until you remedy the situation. You can do this by rewriting the effective properties for the files on the drive. This will unlock the information on the hard drive and enable you to again access and makes changes to the files.
Right-click "Start" and click "Explore."
Click the drive to be unlocked.
Highlight all files and folders on the root of the drive. Right-click and choose "Properties."
