How to Unlock Net10 for AT&T
When you purchase a mobile phone that is connected to AT&T's network, it is initially able to connect only to AT&T's network. If you want your phone to connect to another network --- such as Net10's network --- you need an unlock code. You can try getting a code from AT&T, but if that does not work, you can purchase one from a third-party site. In either case, you need to know your phone's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. You may also need a subscriber identity module (SIM) card from another network (such as, in this case, a SIM card from Net10).
Things You'll Need
- Net10 SIM Card
Dial "*#06#" on your phone's keypad to bring up its IMEI number. Write this number down.
Contact AT&T and speak with a customer service representative. Provide her with your phone's IMEI number and ask for an unlock code, though be aware she may not give you one. If she does, write this number down.
Navigate to a website that sells unlock codes, if you do not get one from the AT&T customer service rep. You can see a list of sites that sell codes in Resources. Provide the site with your phone's IMEI number and purchase a code.
Use the unlock code you received to unlock the phone. The exact method of doing this may differ, depending on your model of phone, but the most common method is to remove the current SIM card and replace it with a SIM card from another network. This prompts the phone to request the unlock code, at which point you can simply enter in the code and unlock the phone.
Tips & Warnings
- Because Net10 is a competitor to AT&T, AT&T may not give you the unlock code, as they may not want to help you connect to their competitor's network.
