How to Unlock the iPhone 3G

By Ryan Menezes

Like most cell phones, the iPhone 3G automatically locks its screen when the phone is dormant. The screen locks after a minute of inactivity by default and you can also lock it manually by pressing the "sleep" button on the side of the phone. The screen doesn't react to your touch when locked, keeping you from accidentally dialing numbers or running apps when the phone's in your pocket. To use the phone, you have to wake it from its locked state.

Step 1

Press the iPhone's home key to reveal a green slider on the screen.

Step 2

Tap the slider and drag your finger to the right. If you have set your iPhone to require a passcode, a prompt now appears.

Step 3

Type in your four-digit passcode using the onscreen keypad to unlock the phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have forgotten your passcode, you must connect your phone to a computer and restore your phone's software through iTunes.
