How to Update Display Driver in Windows 7

By Darren Johannsen

The display driver is the software Windows uses to connect to and control a computer's video card. Periodically, video card manufacturers release new drivers, fixing bugs and improving performance. For this reason, it's a good idea to check for updates occasionally.

Step 1

Click the "Start" button, type "Update" in the search box and select the "Windows Update" result.

Step 2

Click "Check for Updates."

Step 3

Select the "Important Updates are Available" or the "Optional Updates are Available" button if there is one and the "Select Updates to Install" menu is not displayed automatically.

Step 4

Look for an update for your video card driver in the available updates list. If you find one, check the check box next to it and click the "OK" button.

Step 5

Click the "Install Updates" button. You may be asked to enter your administrator password. To complete the installation, you may need to restart your computer.
