How to Upgrade a Verizon Phone Before the Contract Ends

By Greyson Ferguson

Usually, when your Verizon contract ends the company offers you extra incentives to extend your contract, including deals on new wireless phones. However, you don't need to wait to purchase that new phone you've been eyeing. With Verizon Wireless you can purchase a new phone at any time, and your contract is automatically extended from the date you purchase the phone.

Step 1

Go to your local Verizon Wireless facility. If you don't have one, some large electronics stores do provide Verizon service and a selection of phones.

Step 2

Chose the phone you want to upgrade to. Even if you are using a standard flip phone you can upgrade to a smartphone.

Step 3

Transfer all of your phone numbers, texts and other saved information to your new phone. The service technician at the Verizon store does this for you, and it takes only a few minutes to complete.

Step 4

Fill out the required paperwork. Because most of the information is already on file, you need only to select your payment option and acknowledge your contract is being extended because of the new phone purchase.

Step 5

Take your new phone (and your old phone) with you when you leave the Verizon store. You can instantly begin using your new phone, and all calls are now directed to it.
