How to Upgrade Microsoft Office Student Version to Professional

Microsoft Office Student Edition includes the essential applications needed to assist students with their research papers, presentations and homework. Microsoft Office Professional expands on this functionality by including applications fit for professionals and business owners. In addition to the applications included in the Student Edition, the Professional Edition includes Microsoft Access, Outlook and Publisher to help improve productivity. Fortunately, Microsoft makes it very easy to upgrade from the Student Edition to the Professional Edition from their website.

Step 1

Visit the Microsoft Office purchase page (see Resources).

Step 2

Find the heading that says "Office Professional 2010." Click the "buy it now" text underneath the heading. You will be taken to a checkout page.

Step 3

Click "Continue" in the bottom right. You will be asked to sign into your Microsoft account. If you don't have one, you can create one for free by providing a few personal identifiers and your e-mail address.

Step 4

Fill in your billing information.

Step 5

Click "Continue" after confirming that your order is correct.

Step 6

Click the "Download" button to download Professional Office 2010.

Step 7

Run the setup the file. Follow the on-screen prompts and your current Student Edition of Microsoft Office will be upgraded to the Professional Edition.
