How to Upload Videos to Email

By Jessica Broadmoor

Digital video cameras and cell phones have made it easy to take videos and share them with family and friends. Sending videos via email is one way to share them. To do this, you first have to upload the videos to your email account. This can be done in a few easy steps.

Step 1

Check the file size limits on your email account. Many email accounts have maximum limits on the file size of your uploads. If you don't know the limits, check with your email provider. You want to make sure your video does not exceed the maximum; otherwise, you won't be able to send it.

Step 2

Locate the video file on your hard drive. You'll need to know where the file is saved to upload it.

Step 3

Compose a new email. Login to your email account and compose a new email to begin the uploading process.

Step 4

Click on Upload. Find the button in your browser window that says "Upload" or "Add Attachment." Click on that button and then click on "Browse" to find the video file on your computer. Select the file, click "Upload" or "OK" and wait for the uploading to begin.

Step 5

Send the email. After the video is uploaded, you can type a message, subject, and recipient and click "Send."

Tips & Warnings

  • If your email provider does not give you enough space to send a video via email, consider uploading the video to a video sharing site. YouTube is one suggestion. However, if you want greater control on your privacy settings, consider using a service like Shutterfly that is geared toward sharing media with family and friends.
