By Jedadiah Casey

The Time Capsule device is Apple's Network Attached Storage device that is designed to server as a central Time Machine backup location for one or more Apple computers running the Mac OS X operating system. While a Time Capsule is used primary for Time Machine backups, it is also a fully-functioning network drive. You can use a Time Capsule device as an external network hard drive by mounting it with the Mac OS X Finder.

Step 1

Click the "Finder" icon in the Dock.

Step 2

Click the "Go" menu.

Step 3

Click "Network."

Step 4

Double-click the Time Capsule.

Step 5

Drag files and folders into the Finder window to copy them to the Time Capsule, just like with an external hard drive.
