How to Use Non Metro Phones for Metro PCS

By Joanne Cichetti

Metro PCS is a prepaid wireless cell phone service provider that operates on the CDMA network in the United States. If you plan to switch from any other CDMA network to Metro PCS, you can use your existing phone to become Metro PCS' customer. Metro PCS offers a service called "MetroFLASH," through which you don't have to sign any contract or buy a new handset.

Step 1

Find your cell phone model under the phone's battery.

Step 2

Go to Metro PCS's MetroFLASH Web page (see Resources).

Step 3

Click your phone's brand from the right side on the list. Your phone model has to be on the list in the pop-up box to be compatible with Metro PCS service.

Step 4

Provide your ZIP code in the respective field. This will show you the address of the nearest Metro PCS store or authorized dealer that offers MetroFLASH service.

Step 5

Take your phone to the Metro PCS store, and pay $10 (as of 2010). You can use Metro PCS' service on your phone for as low as $40 per month.

Tips & Warnings

  • As of 2010, MetroFLASH service is unavailable in Bossier City, Louisiana; western and northern Michigan; Boston; and New York.
