How to Use PlayStation Eye on a Computer

By Megan Thacker

With the Sony PlayStation Eye (PSEye), PlayStation 3 users can integrate personal video into their gaming experience. The high-quality camera delivers pristine picture quality, works well in low lighting and has a built-in high-quality microphone with background noise cancellation. Sony does not offer the software needed to use the PSEye on a PC. However, software drivers have appeared online, created by PSEye users who wish to use their camera as a computer webcam. The website Code Laboratories offers this driver for download in its download section.

Things You'll Need

  • CL-Eye Driver

Step 1

Ensure the PSEye is not plugged into your computer and there are no previous installs of a PSEye. Remove all previous installs before attempting to install a new driver.

Step 2

Visit Code Laboratories (See References) to download the driver. Locate and click on the green "Download CL-Eye Driver" button. Save the file and wait for it to finish downloading.

Step 3

Locate the file titled "CL-Eye-Driver-" in the download folder and open it. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard. Click "Next" to begin the wizard. Agree to the terms of use, which will initialize the driver installation process. Wait for the software to install, then click "Finish" to complete the installation.

Step 4

Plug in the PSEye. Test the camera by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "CL-Eye Driver" and "CL-Eye Test."

Step 5

Use the PSEye like any other webcam with YouTube, Skype, and various other instant-messaging platforms.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you experience issues with the setup process, re-attempt the installation in Windows Safe Mode.
