- CD-burning software installed
Launch a Web browser and download the UBCD4Win program from the UBCD4Win website.
Double-click on the UBCD4Win.exe file that you downloaded to run it. Follow the on-screen prompts. Do not install the program to a folder or directory with spaces in the folder name.
Insert the Windows XP CD with SP1 or SP2 into your computer’s disc drive.
Click the “Plug-ins” button to update and customize any tools. Although this is optional, it can be very important, depending on how you use the program later. Select your customizations. When finished, click “Close.”
Click “Build” to begin building your UBCD recovery disc. Follow the on-screen prompts and let the application build an ISO image. Wait for the process to finish.
Load your CD-burning program and burn the ISO as an image. It’s important that you use the “Burn as Image” option.
Restart your computer with the freshly burned CD in the drive. You may need to configure your BIOS to boot from the CD. If you’ve created the recovery disc correctly, your PC should boot into UBCD4Win. You can now use the various tools available to repair your Windows XP installation.
