How to Use XBMC to View Streaming Video
XBMC is a powerful open-source media player and entertainment software package available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Xbox. XBMC is particularly designed to function as a home-theater personal computer, facilitating the playback of music, photos and movies on a home television. A default installation of XBMC does not support the playback of YouTube videos. However, XBMC 10.0, which is the latest version of XBMC, allows users to directly search for and download scripts and plugins, including the YouTube Plugin. The YouTube Plugin is the only option that allows users to search for and view streaming videos from multiple websites, including YouTube.
Download XBMC 10.0 (see Resources). XBMC 10.0, the latest version of XBMC, contains an add-on browser, which allows users to easily download and install XBMC add-ons.
Select "Settings" followed by "Add-ons browser" from the main XBMC menu.
Type "YouTube" in the search box, and then hit "Search." The "YouTube Plug-in" will be the first result.
Select "Download." This will automatically download and install the YouTube Plugin. If you are using a cable or DSL connection, the YouTube Plugin should download in less than a minute. After the download is finished, the YouTube Plugin will automatically install. A message will appear on-screen once the installation process is finished.
Access the XBMC sub-menu, and then select "Scripts." While the appearance of XBMC will vary with the skin you have installed, the sub-menu is the small button on the bottom right corner of the screen.
Select "YouTube Plug-in" from the "Scripts" menu. This will automatically open the YouTube Plug-in, which will allow you to search for and view streaming videos.
