How to Wipe iPhone Memory

When you change phones, you need to decide what to do with your old iPhone. You can recycle it, sell it or give it away. However, you don't want to share your personal information when you pass on your phone. Wiping the memory of your old iPhone clean protects you and is relatively simple. You don't have to supervise the process, which may take a few hours. You just need to know how to get it started.

Step 1

Go to the "Settings" on your iPhone. The icon resembles gears working together.

Step 2

Select the "General" option. This also resembles gears working together. The last option is "Reset."

Step 3

Select the "Reset" option. Choose "Erase All Content and Settings." Enter your password and review the warning message telling you that you are about to erase all the iPhone's media and data. Press the "erase iPhone" button to beging the process of wiping your iPhone's data and settings.

Step 4

Wait for about two hours, sometimes longer, for the information on your iPhone to be totally erased.
