How to Wipe Your BlackBerry Curve to Factory Defaults

By Techwalla Contributor

Whether you are ready to upgrade your BlackBerry, give it to someone else or throw it out altogether, you should make sure that any personal data has been removed first. BlackBerry terms restoring the device to its factory settings as "wiping" your data from the phone. This also works if you feel you have downloaded an application that is proving problematic to your BlackBerry Curve's operation.

Things You'll Need

  • Blackberry
  • approx. 5 minutes

Step 1

Tap the "Options" icon from the Home screen.

Step 2

Tap "Security" and "Security Wipe."

Step 3

Select the check boxes next to the type of data you want to delete. If you want to completely clear your BlackBerry Curve of all stored data, check all available check boxes.

Step 4

Type "blackberry" without the quotes.

Step 5

Tap "Wipe Data."

Tips & Warnings

  • Back up your data onto your computer through the BlackBerry Desktop Software program to prevent losing your information permanently.
  • Do not back up any applications that you suspect are viral or spyware.
