Instructions for Mainstays TV Carts

By Marshal M. Rosenthal

The Mainstays brand TV cart, distributed by Walmart, is an inexpensive piece of furniture designed to hold a 20- or 22-inch television. You can also use it for an all-in-one computer that includes a monitor, such as an iMac. The cart does not come assembled, but includes all parts necessary for assembly, with the exception of a tool that is common to most households. No woodworking abilities are needed to assemble the Mainstay TV cart.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver

Step 1

Place a wood screw through each of the two holes at the top left and right corners of the left side of the cart. Place a wood screw through each of the two holes at the top and bottom of the shelf near the center. Place the left side of the cart horizontally on the floor face down. The pieces of the cart are labeled as to which is the outside and which is the inside.

Step 2

Hold the center shelf vertically with the edge facing you. Place the center shelf on the left side of the cart so that the two screws near the center go into the holes at the left and right edge of the shelf. Repeat this with the top shelf, only placing it on the left side of the cart so that the two screws at the left side of the shelf line up with the holes in the end of the top shelf.

Step 3

Rotate the left side of the cart 90 degrees so that it is now standing up. Screw the screws through the left side of the cart into the shelves with a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 4

Line up the holes on the right side of the cart with the holes in the two shelves. Screw wood screws through the right side of the cart and into the center and top shelves with the Phillips screwdriver.

Step 5

Place the TV cart face down on the floor. Line up the cardboard sheet with the back of the cart. Cover the back of the cart with the sheet. Hammer the nails into the top, bottom, left and right sides of the cardboard sheet. Space the nails about 1 inch apart.

Step 6

Stand the cart upright. Place a TV on the cart. Plug the TV's power cord into a wall outlet for power, turn the TV on and enjoy watching television.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use an abrasive cleaner on the cart because it will damage the surface.
