iTunes Won't Find My iPhone

Utilizing an iPhone with the iTunes software program lets you update the phone's software, transfer songs and videos from the computer to the phone and delete multimedia files from the iPhone's memory. Performing any of these actions is not possible, however, if the iTunes software on your computer cannot find or read the iPhone. There are several fixes that you can perform to both iTunes and the iPhone that should eventually troubleshoot this issue without you losing any files on the phone.

Step

Charge the iPhone for at least 30 minutes. Try to sync the phone with iTunes.

Step

Unplug any non-iPhone cords or devices that are connected to the computer's USB ports. Try to sync the phone with iTunes.

Step

Connect the iPhone to different USB ports on the computer. Stop if/when iTunes locates and lists the iPhone.

Step

Use a different Apple USB cord (or cords) to connect the device to the computer. A faulty cord prevents iTunes from reading the iPhone.

Step

Turn off the iPhone and computer. Turn both devices back on and try to sync the phone with iTunes.

Step

Download (or redownload) the most recent version of iTunes. This download is located on the official iTunes website (see Resources).

Step

Reset the iPhone by holding the device's "Home" and "Power" buttons until the phone turns off. Turn the phone back on and attempt to sync the phone.
