MagicJack Installation Instructions

By Michael Batton Kaput

When it comes to traveling abroad, keeping in touch with family and friends back home is essential. There are a variety of services that allow Internet users to call home for free or a small fee. Many of these, like Skype, rely on a computer program to connect your call. MagicJack does them one better and acts like a real telephone. By connecting the magicJack to a computer, users can register an actual U.S. phone number and make calls back home for no cost except the annual subscription fee. Installing a magicJack takes just a few minutes with a basic Internet connection.

Step 1

Plug your magicJack into your computer's USB port. Be sure that when you do, your Internet connection is working.

Step 2

Plug your phone into the magicJack using the phone jack port on the side of the magicJack.

Step 3

Register your magicJack by clicking on the "Click to Register" button. Specify where you bought your magicJack from and click "Next."

Step 4

Enter your email address in the box titled "Email." Type in either your order number, credit-card number or ZIP code and click "Next." In the My magicJack Account window, click the first option ("I have already registered another device...") if you already have a magicJack account. Click the second option ("I am creating a new account for this device") if you are using a magicJack for the first time. Click "Next."

Step 5

Enter your existing account information if you already have a magicJack account and click "Next." Fill in your personal information and billing address in the box if you are creating a new account. Click "Next." Check the box next to "I have read and agree to the Terms of Service" and click "Next."

Step 6

Enter your area code and its prefix in the next window. Click the "No thanks. I want the last four digits to be assigned automatically" option to automatically generate your magicJack phone number. A window with a smiling face will appear, indicating that registration is complete and your magicJack is ready to use.
