POS System Tutorial
Point of sale software, or POS software, is designed for use in the retail or hospitality industry. This software operates using a touchscreen computer system, allowing employees to ring through items, run debit-card transactions and record food orders. POS system is widely used in many retail and hospitality environments because it is easy to use and has a variety of capabilities.
Retail Point of Sale
Log into the system using your cashier log-in card or user password.
Scan in an item using the barcode scanner. The item will automatically be added to the queue with the taxes and totals calculated automatically. Products with no barcodes can be located by selecting the "Department" button and choosing the category associated with that item until you are able to locate it.
Complete a transaction by touching the "PAY" button and typing in the amount tendered. Then select the payment method on the side of the screen.
Swipe any credit cards or debit cards on the slot located on the right hand side of the machine. The receipt will print out automatically when the transaction has been completed.
Hospitality Point of Sale
Log into the system using your server card or by entering your user password.
Select a table from the custom-designed restaurant layout screen. By touching a table, you will open a new bill for that specific table.
Place a table's order by opening up the table window and pressing the screen to add items. Food items are all categorized for easy access. When you select an item with a modifier, for example salad dressing choice, you will automatically be prompted with a list of options.
Hit "SEND" to send the order to the kitchen staff.
Split bills by selecting "Split By Guest" and then selecting the items for each of the entered number of guests. You can split the bills evenly by selecting "Split Evenly" and then entering the number of guests.
Hit the "PAY" button to close out a bill. Each bill can be closed out to a different tender type. For cash, enter in the amount given and change will be calculated. Credit cards and debit cards can be run through the slot on the side of the machine.
