What Do I Do if My Kindle Is Frozen?
The Amazon Kindle is an e-reader that allows users to tote their reading libraries around in a portable, convenient device. The Kindle occasionally freezes because of minor errors in loading programs or in connecting to the Internet. Sometimes Kindles freeze because their software is not updated. After unfreezing your Kindle by using one of the options below, check to see if your Kindle software is current by going to "Settings," clicking the "Menu" button and selecting "Update Your Kindle" to avoid potential freezing problems with your Kindle in the future.
Sometimes Kindles freeze because of a minor error in loading a particular reading title or active content. These errors are easily corrected by simply turning the Kindle to its standby setting. Slide the power button and release it. A screen saver will appear on your Kindle screen in standby mode. Then, slide the power button and release it again to take your device out of standby mode. Try returning to the home screen by clicking the "Home" button. If your Kindle goes to the home screen, it is no longer frozen. If not, you will need to try a different tack.
