What Is AVG Watchdog?

AVG Watchdog Service is part of the AVG antivirus software. It is not a malicious program; however malware can camouflage itself as avgwdsvc.exe.

AVG Watchdog Service is a component of the AVG antivirus software. You can download the free version or one of the paid versions of AVG antivirus software depending on the level of protection you need. Watchdog is a component of all versions of the AVG software.

AVG Watchdog Service is not essential to run Windows, so it can be deleted if the high CPU usage is interfering with your computer's ability to perform. Additionally, AVG Watchdog Service is not a Windows service, although it is an important background process for the security of your computer. It is not a malicious program; however some malware camouflages itself as AVG Watchdog Service.

The file name for AVG Watchdog Service is avgwdsvc.exe and it is found in the Program Files folder.

Warning

If avgwdsvc.exe is found in the System32 folder, it may be malware camouflaging itself as AVG Watchdog Service. Run a virus scan and check the process to make sure it's not a threat to your computer.
