PROS

  • The iPod shuffle has a tiny form factor so it fits anywhere.
  • You can have an Apple iPod with 15 hours of audio playback for only $50.
  • It clips onto workout clothes or anything else easily.

CONS

  • There's no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and it doesn't support streaming music.
  • It only has 2GB of memory.
  • There's no display.
Apple's iPod shuffle is the 4th generation of the tiny music player, which hasn't changed much since its introduction in 2010. The 2015 version comes with the same ear buds, sync cord, and 2GB memory as the earlier models--only the colors are updated. The current colors are space gray, gold, silver, pink, blue, and red (PRODUCT). There still isn’t Wi-Fi or Bluetooth support, so it syncs with a USB cord. When you listen to the iPod shuffle, you can choose between playing songs in order or randomly. One cool feature is the VoiceOver button, which can read music titles in any of 29 languages.

It's not just the use of metal that upholds the Apple reputation for build quality, either. The button action and the satisfying clunk of the function switch up top are all that bit better than you'd get from most rivals at the price.

There are no streaming music options, and while I could live with that if the Shuffle was fully compatible with the Apple Music subscription service, unfortunately, no iPods are.

Except for a few color changes, Apple hasn’t updated the Shuffle since 2010, making it one of the oldest things the company sells.

This minimalist audio player is one of the best iPods Apple has made. I’m glad it’s still around; I just ordered a new one.
