A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • The Transformer Book Flip is an attractive, well-constructed piece of hardware.
  • Asus includes a powerful processor with great performance for the price.
  • This laptop offers excellent battery life.

CONS

  • It's too heavy to use comfortably as a tablet.
  • The mechanical hard drive is slower than a solid-state drive. It's noisy, too.
  • The display is low resolution, has poor viewing angles, and is susceptible to glare.
The Transformer Book Flip is a transforming Windows ultrabook. Like many other 2-in-1 PCs that shipped with Windows 8.1, it has a hinge that can rotate all the way around to turn the laptop into a tablet. Aside from its touch screen and fancy hinge, it's a fairly standard Windows laptop inside with an Intel Core i5 CPU. It's not trying to be a tablet. It's trying to be a solid laptop that can also function as a tablet when necessary.

The only major issues I have with the TP300LA had nothing to with the laptop and everything to do with the Windows 8.1 interface.

It's quite a heavy thing which means it has little use when in tablet mode, it's just too weighty.
