VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

based on the following sites

PROS

  • The ZenBook Pro has a glorious 4K touch display.
  • With the latest price drop, the UX501 is $1000 less than a comparable MacBook Pro.
  • The on-board 512GB solid state drive is spacious and uber fast.

CONS

  • It's heavy enough that you'd rather leave this machine at the office.
  • The downside to such a powerful laptop is that it can't go unplugged for long.
  • Its 4K screen is not ideal for color-accurate work like editing photos for print.
Known as the MacBook Pro-alternative for the Windows crowd, the Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 laptop sports a 4K touch display, a Thunderbolt 2.0 port, a speedy 512GB SSD, and a significantly lower price tag at $1500. Not only can content creators run Adobe Creative Suite, they'll also be able to game in their off hours, thanks to the Intel i7 processor and Nvidia discrete graphics under the hood. Though the UX501 shares the same brushed aluminum good looks as its ultrabook siblings, this 15-inch version is just big and heavy enough that you'd want to leave on your desk.

About the only aspect of performance that's lackluster is battery life, with the laptop lasting 4 hours 56 minutes in our rundown test.
