PROS

  • The design is attractive and sophisticated, with a leather band and sleek face.
  • The ZenWatch is comfortable to wear and accommodates third-party bands.
  • The ZenWatch costs less than competing Android Wear watches.

CONS

  • The leather band and large face limit its use as a fitness tracker.
  • The battery life is rated at only one day.
  • The heart rate monitor's accuracy is questionable.
The Asus ZenWatch is the company’s first entry in the smartwatch product category. Running Google’s Android Wear operating system, the ZenWatch offers access to information weather and traffic, tracks fitness and heart rate, and plays music. It also connects to an Android phone--users of other platforms are out of luck--to display texts, emails, and incoming calls. The ZenWatch features a 1.6-inch square touch screen and a brown leather band, which is a standard size so it can be swapped out for a third-party band.

The ZenWatch is more concerned with your general well-being, rather than how far you've run today, so there's no GPS tracking or heart-rate tracking, though a built-in "Biosensor" on the front will give you one-off heart-rate readings.

I mentioned battery, and I’m happy to report it’s quite good. Even after an active work day and a half hour of installing and uninstalling apps, the indicator read close to 50% when I plugged it in to charge the first night.

The ZenWatch's 320x320 display isn't all that much to write home about, and that's a shame considering how great the body looks.
