VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • Audio quality is admirable across most musical genres, but the bass is relatively weak. If you listen to R&B, rap, or hip-hop music, you might want to look elsewhere.
  • These earbuds do a good job of staying in place no matter what.
  • Bose's silicon tips are comfortable.

CONS

  • Although the SoundSport comes in separate versions for Apple devices and select Samsung and Android devices, Windows Phone is left out in the cold.
  • The SoundSport earbuds leak some sound.
  • These babies are sweat- and water-resistant--but not waterproof. Wear them for a run on a rainy day, but don't submerge them in a swimming pool.
While Bose also offers the SoundTrue lineup of sound isolating IEM headphones, the SoundSport is a set of earbuds targeted at users who don't like to jam headphones way into their ear canals. To keep the SoundSport earbuds snug and secure for sports and fitness pursuits, the earbuds features C-shaped wings that fit inside the folds of the ear and soft silicon tips that rest just at the top of the ear canal. Unlike SoundTrue, the SoundSport buds let in ambient sounds from the street, the fitness center, and anywhere else you happen to be.

Being a tight fit in the ear during a heavy workout, it is obvious that the sweat would enter the earphone buds and reach the drivers. However, the drivers are coated with hydrophobic fabric. The material properties are transparent to sound but also repel any fluid thus keeping your earphones safe.

I can only compare these to the ones that come with an apple device, and other inexpensive types, but these are vastly superior to those. The sound quality puts the others to shame, particularly the [bass]. I wear these a lot - while strength training, cycling and walking - and I like that I can hear cars approaching and people speaking to me, though if I turn the volume up enough I won't hear anything else at all.

The Bose SoundSport In-Ear headphones are secure and comfortable as well as sweat-resistant, and their "open" design is appealing. They also offer pleasantly full bass and include an integrated remote and microphone and a nice carrying case...While the Bose SoundSport In-Ear may not be the best sounding in-ear headphone for the money, the design and comfort level are great, and it's ideal for people who want this sort of headphone style without the need to jam the tips into their ear canals.

..since it stays in place securely, you won't have to worry about it falling out a lot as compared with conventional headphones. Most people will find the open design a comfortable fit. However, since these are "open," it [allows] a lot of ambient sound to come in while you're listening to your favorite tunes.

Each earpiece fits inside of your ear to prevent slips and keep the earbuds in place without over-the-ear loops. This also helps with the TriPort Audio, which delivers three-dimensional audio through your entire ear, including the ear canal. The result is full, balanced sound with real-life bass that holds true even at high volumes.
