PROS

  • The Rebel T6i takes good quality photos with minimal noise and good detail.
  • Wi-Fi and NFC support makes sharing pictures easy.
  • The unit is designed with a good mix of manual and auto controls.

CONS

  • The optical viewfinder covers only 95 percent of the area in a shot.
  • The T6i features are inconsistent between Viewfinder and Live View mode, which is both confusing and frustrating,
  • It's almost impossible to focus on moving subjects in Live View mode.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6i is a mid-tier shooter aimed at entry-level and enthusiast photographers. The T6i has a large 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and an optical viewfinder that covers only 95 percent of the area in a shot, compared to 98 percent for Canon's higher priced models. It has a top burst speed of five frames per second, which is on the slow side. However, its 19-point phase-detection autofocus system is both quick and accurate. The unit has a built-in flash, but it supports an external one. Wi-Fi and NFC support simplifies sharing and remote control.

Canon has used pentamirrors rather than the more expensive pentaprism found in cameras like the 70D further up the EOS line. They show approximately 95% of the scene (the 70D cover 98%) so there’s a chance that images will contain elements around their edges that you couldn’t see in the viewfinder.

The greatest Rebel yet. That's a phrase we mutter about once a year. This time, we really mean it, and by a factor of two.

DSLRs generally all look alike, and Canon certainly didn’t break the mold with this pair.

Good all around camera, but great for movie-making
A nice all around camera that takes good pictures when paired with a high quality lens. The included lens is pretty good but no wow factor. I use it to make movies and it has a great movie ability, so if that is what you are looking for then you cant go wrong with this one!

Good mid-range camera
A pretty decent camera with good quality images. It really is a mid-range camera, great for personal use. I found that it takes much better photos in bright light than in shadows. The other thing I noticed is that it's a little difficult to go all manual. The camera is really designed to work at its best in auto mode. This isn't a problem. But if you're looking to capture a scene in a specific, non-generic way, you'll have to fiddle with it a bit... or just read the manual.
