TECHWALLA
VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.
PROS
- The text quality on the X17 is particularly good. Black text on white is sharp down to the smallest size--6.8 points.
- The projector has a good selection of ports, including two VGA ports, an HDMI port, an S-video port, three RCA jacks, and a USB Type B port.
- The X17 has strong audio for a projector and RCA jacks so you can hook up an external audio source.
CONS
- The PowerLite X17 XGA 3LCD projector does not come with a carrying case. You can buy one for $30.
- The projector has lower resolution and lower brightness than the Epson W17.
- You may see some greenish tinting in white or gray backgrounds.
The Epson PowerLite X17 XGA 3LCD projector is a small, lightweight classroom-grade projector that outputs a good image at XGA 1024 x 768 resolution. Text looks particularly good on this projector--even white on black text is readable, if fuzzy, at the smallest size. This projector features a wide array of ports, including two VGA ports and an HDMI port, as well as three RCA jacks, which allow you to hook up an external audio source.
