PROS

  • The Vivosmart HR+ includes GPS for tracking distance, time, and pace while running.
  • Its distance and step tracking are very accurate, and the display is easy to read.
  • The Vivosmart HR+ is waterproof, and its battery lasts about five days, longer than many of its rivals.

CONS

  • The Vivosmart HR+ is bulky, so much so that it may look out of place on some wrists, and its band is not swappable.
  • Garmin's app is not the most intuitive.
  • It's pricier than some of its rivals.
Garmin’s Vivosmart HR was only six months old when the company released the updated version, the Vivosmart HR+. Like its predecessor, the Vivosmart HR+ is an activity tracker that includes a wrist-based heart rate monitor. As that + in the name indicates, it adds more, namely built-in GPS, which allows runners to track their distance, time, and pace without bringing a phone along. Like the Vivosmart HR, the HR+ version includes features that remind wearers to get up and move regularly, and it displays notifications from a connected smartphone.

The Garmin Vivosmart HR+ may not be the prettiest wearable around, but it ticks all the right boxes when it comes to functionality.

With so much packed into the Garmin Vivosmart HR+, it's no surprise that it's fairly easy to drain the battery.

It's too bulky (and expensive) as a 24/7 activity tracker, but its screen is too small to be a good GPS watch for runners.

It is quite impressive that Garmin was able to add a GPS sensor to one of its best trackers while maintaining the overall design and feel.
