VERDICT
A solid product. Despite some flaws, it's still a good value.

PROS

  • The better-than-Retina display of the Pixel delivers crystal-clear text and stunning image quality.
  • With USB Type-C ports on both sides, you can charge the Pixel on either side, and unlike the new MacBook, the Pixel includes several other ports.
  • The build quality of the aluminum Pixel screams high-end. The hinge in particular, is strong and opens smoothly.

CONS

  • Even though the price has dropped, the Pixel is still too expensive for a Chromebook.
  • A touch screen on a Chromebook is unnecessary, and the 3:2 aspect ratio might be too limiting for some multitaskers.
  • At 3.3-pounds, the Pixel is heavy compared to other high-end Apple and Windows laptops.
Google’s Chromebook Pixel (2015) remains the top-of-the-line Chromebook with this year’s updated model. The Pixel includes two USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, a headphone/mic combo jack, and a 720p HD webcam. The 3.3-pound Pixel has a rated battery life of 12 hours.
