VERDICT
Clearly above average. Only a couple of issues keep this from being best in class.

PROS

  • The attractively priced MediaPad M2 8.0 has better graphics than the majority of its competitors.
  • Two programs can be open at the same time.
  • There are cameras on both sides of the tablet.

CONS

  • Direct sunlight makes the screen difficult to view.
  • The microphone picks up background noise and makes voices sound muffled.
  • Without autofocus, the cameras are annoying to use.
Huawei’s MediaPad M2 8.0 is affordable but not cheap, offers good quality but is not cutting edge, and is still worth its price. Powered by a high-quality processor and featuring more pixels per inch than most of its competitors, the tablet is built to run two programs at once. The two cameras are decent quality but don’t autofocus. The microphone underperforms, but the speakers are excellent. Equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a single micro USB port, the tablet runs Android 5.1 and lasts approximately 8 and a half hours on a full charge.

Daylight shots are good with a decent sharpness. The color reproduction, however, deviates slightly from the original. The low-light performance is very unsatisfactory; the flash can only conditionally remedy this.

I’d go so far as to say the MediaPad M2 has better speakers than those put in laptops these days.

Selfie lovers can also look forward to a 2MP front-facing camera, which improves upon the older version's 1MP. While the megapixels on the secondary camera may not be that great, it should serve the purpose for those looking to video chat.

While the camera app is useful, the camera itself runs into issues under poorly lit environments. Accessibility to some of the options is also quite difficult, for example, anyone wanting to use read mode will have to dive deep into the settings. Poor screen calibration from the factory is also something that can’t be ignored.
