PROS

  • The IPS panel has many benefits including better side-angle viewing.
  • LG's webOS 2.0 smart TV system is easy to use.
  • The remote is smartly designed and makes for easy input.

CONS

  • The IPS panel's advantages aside, the saturation of black levels isn't good.
  • Motion blur is obvious when in the gaming picture setting.
  • There's no built-in subwoofer, which hurts sound quality.
LG’s 55LF6300 is a 55-inch LED smart TV with an IPS display. IPS (in-plane switching) technology provides wide viewing angles; LG’s TV can be viewed at a sharp angle of 31 degrees. The TV is edge-lit, meaning the LEDs are positioned around the edge of the panel and light spreads outwards. The TV has a refresh rate of 60 hertz but uses a computer to emulate 120 hertz, which LG calls TruMotion 120Hz. The TV comes with LG’s much-praised webOS 2.0--the operating system for handling smart features such as apps, games and Web browsing. The LG Magic Remote has an intuitive point-and-click functionality. Connections include three HDMI and three USB ports, one RF in, one shared component/composite in, an Ethernet port and one digital audio out.

This is a full high definition TV with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 – it’s not 4K Ultra High Definition which is four times higher resolution – which is why it’s a lot cheaper. There’s no easily accessible 4K content around at the moment anyway so you’re not missing out on much.

The fit and finish of the LF6300 is pretty damn good for a mid-range edge-lit LED TV.

The LG LF6300 LED TV has great smart features and a wide viewing angle. However, it has too many downsides to be worth considering.
